BROMLEY Police are reissuing a warning about a bank card scam after an increase in reports.

In the last two weeks there have been 25 attempts to perpetrate the scam, which involves using false pretences to try and get people’s bank cards.

The scam works by the victim receiving a phone call from someone claiming to be from their bank or credit card supplier.

The caller obtains personal details before advising them they need a new card and advising them a courier will collect their old card.

A person dressed as a courier then arrives at the door and takes the card.

A spokeman for Bromley Police said: “It is important that residents are aware of the tactics used by con-artists. Never-ever disclose your bank details to anyone cold calling.

“Banks will never call you asking for personal or account information as they already have these details, and neither will the Police.

“If there was a problem with your card and it needed to be replaced the bank would write to you advising you to cut the card up.

“You should never give out bank details or other personal information over the phone, whatever the reason behind the request."
