AN ALLEGED attack by a schoolboy left two teachers in hospital and neighbours in shock.

A 10-year-old boy has been arrested over the alleged assault which took place at Burwood School in Avalon Road, Orpington at around 1pm on Thursday [January 5].

Two women, both aged in their 50s, were taken by ambulance to a nearby hospital.

One was treated for a facial injury and the other has a suspected dislocated kneecap and broken leg.

John McNamara, 78, of Avalon Road, said: “It was horrifying, an absolutely awful attack. I haven’t heard of anything like that ever happening there before.”

The local authority controlled school is a centre for children with special educational needs whose mainstream schooling has broken down.

Sarah Lancaster, 40, of Craven Road, said: “I’m really shocked. I know it’s a school for naughty boys so it kind of goes with the territory but the teachers do a very good job of keeping it under control.”

A Bromley Council spokesman said: “It would be inappropriate to comment on an individual case such as this but it is important to note that the school is for statemented pupils with special educational needs in respect of emotional and behavioural difficulties.”

The boy was arrested at the scene on suspicion of GBH and taken to a south-east London police station.

He has been bailed to return in mid-February.
