PROVING you are never too young for the Bard, The Albany's Christmas show will be a child-friendly adaptation of The Tempest, using puppets instead of actors.

Written by former Children’s Laureate Michael Rosen and presented by the Little Angel Theatre company, The Magician's Daughter will run at the Deptford theatre from December 6 to December 24.

The 40-minute play for children aged three and above, produced in association with the Royal Shakespeare Company, tells the story of a grown-up Miranda who recounts to her daughter the tale of when she lived on a magical island with her father Prospero.

Using Little Angel’s trademark blend of puppetry and song, Miranda’s daughter discovers Ariel and Caliban for herself, as well as the isle where her mother once lived.

Rosen says he enjoyed writing for puppets.

He said: “The words are contributing to a strange kind of magic which requires a lot of imagination work from its young audiences.”
