Sir Henry Cooper will be honoured in Lewisham
LEWISHAM Council is to honour legendary boxer Sir Henry Cooper in the borough where he grew up.
Plans are now being finalised for a plaque to the great man outside his childhood home in Farmstead Road, Bellingham.
The news follows our campaign to honour Britain’s greatest fighter in Lewisham, the place he spent his formative years.
We were inundated with requests from readers to get a fitting tribute to Our ‘Enry in the borough and council chiefs are to press ahead with plans to erect the memorial.
A spokesman said: "The current owners of Sir Henry's former home have said that they would be delighted to have a plaque honouring him outside their home.
“The council is hoping that a formal ceremony to unveil the plaque could take place in the next couple of months."
