THE council is warning parents to make sure they follow the law when travelling with children.
From next Monday children must use the appropriate restraint in cars until they are 135cm tall or 12-years-old.
Parents could be given a £30 fixed penalty notice for not providing the right car seat for children, or a £500 fine if the case goes to court.
Bromley Council's child seat expert Caroline Townsend said: "A child wearing an adult seat belt can sustain serious injuries as it cuts across the neck and sits too high across the tummy.
"A booster seat or booster cushion must be used as it redirects the belt to fit the child properly."
Call the council on 020 8313 4498 for more information or to book an appointment to have your child's restraint checked.
