The National Literacy Trust is pleased to announce the appointment of Jonathan Douglas as director.
He will succeed Neil McClelland, who has been director of the Trust since it was founded in 1993.
Jonathan will take up the post in January next year.
Jonathan will move to the National Literacy Trust from the Museums, Libraries and Archives Council (MLA), where he is currently head of policy development.
He has already worked extensively with the Trust as a member of its advisory panel.
Before working at MLA, he was adviser for Youth and Schools Libraries at the Chartered Institute of Library and Information Professionals. He has also worked in Westminster libraries as a children's librarian and children's services team leader.
Mr Douglas said: "I'm thrilled and excited to be joining the Trust.
"Taking the Trust's vision forward is truly an honour."
Amanda Jordan, chair of trustees, said: "Jonathan impressed the appointment panel with his vision for the next stage of the Trust's development.
"We are confident Jonathan will ensure the National Literacy Trust continues to make a vital contribution to building a more literate nation."
