YOUNGSTERS have been receiving medals for learning to sail.
Around 100 young people and their families were at the sail fun day at Southmere Lake, Thamesmead, to celebrate completing their Royal Yachting Association course.
Trust Thamesmead chairman and Greenwich councillor Jackie Smith, made the presentations.
The courses are run through Thamesmead YMCA which has been teaching the courses since 1972.
The YMCA runs taster sessions and courses for youngsters and adults and has 57 sailing boats and 26 volunteer instructors. It also provides the life-saving equipment and has five safety boats.
A four-day course, to learn to sail, costs £16 for young people and £25 for adults.
