A NEW POLITICAL party is campaigning to scrap directly-elected mayors.
The One London Party, launched 12 months ago to promote issues important to Londoners, wants local governments to dump the system which began in England in 2000.
It gives mayors in the 11 local authorities currently using the system, including Lewisham, the final say on all voting matters.
The party wants a return to a committee style of governance where decisions can only be made if a majority of councillors agree.
Party leader Damian Hockney said: "We want to bring back democracy by returning to the system that worked - elected local councillors with real power."
