Once you’ve got the Summer trends all sewn up and you’ve kept your hair in tip top condition you can turn your attention to the secret weapon of professional salon stylists everywhere – dry shampoo.

Once deemed the lazy woman’s hair choice, dry shampoo is having a hot fashion moment all of its own. Loved by the likes of Alexa Chung and Drew Barrymore it’s the perfect way to lift your look and create an up-to-the minute texture. Jed Hamill from GWI tells us more...

Tricks with dry shampoo

:: ‘Next day’ hair always looks better than just washed and buffed cuticles - it’s more manageable too. To add a ‘next day’ look to just washed hair spray in a little dry shampoo at the roots and brush or comb through to the ends.

:: If you’ve had a professional blow dry and you want to make it last then spray a little dry shampoo just past the outline of your hair (not directly on to it), let it settle and then brush through the surface layers.

:: With dry shampoo less is more, if you over do it you can look like you are going grey. So work through in sections with a light coating.

:: Dry shampoo is available in colours so you can use it as temporary fix when roots or greys are showing through at the scalp. Don’t get caught in the rain though!

:: Use your dry shampoo for ‘spot fixes’ on problem areas such as this season’s solid fringes. The wispy layers in boho long styling can become lank around the face too so just spray dry shampoo on to your brush and brush through until the hair is coated and the grease absorbed.

:: For wavy hair, use a dry shampoo between washes to define sections of wave for a summer festival feel.
