A WELL-USED postbox has been relocated after families and shopkeepers complained about it being closed.

People in Park View Road, Welling, claimed Royal Mail had blocked off the postbox because its postal vans were being ticketed when they stopped to empty the box.

Bexley Council denied the claims stating there were only two instances in recent months when a Royal Mail van received a ticket along the road.

The postbox has now been moved directly opposite where it used to stand to Danson Mead.

Cabinet member for public realm and community safety, Councillor Peter Craske, said: "Whilst moving the postbox across the road may unfortunately still cause inconvenience for some, it does at least mean this part of Welling will continue to have a postal collection service.

“Just as importantly, the new location is far more suitable for postal collections because post vans can park easily and avoid causing delays to traffic or inconvenience to buses needing to use the bus stop."
