HUNDREDS of students in Bromley are opening their A Level results this morning.

Aug 19 14.55: Sixty three per cent of the 16 students at Bishop Challoner in Bromley Road, Shortlands, achieved grades A* to C.

Headteacher Karen Barry said: “Congratulations to all our students who worked very hard to achieve their best.

"We wish them every success in life beyond Bishop Challoner. Thank you to all our staff and parents for their support along the way.”

14.08: Heading for Oxbridge: St Olave’s Grammar School students

Jennifer will study classics at St John's College, Oxford.

Conor will study natural sciences (physical) at Robinson College, Cambridge.

James will study philosophy, Politics and Economics at Lady Margaret Hall College, Oxford.

George will study classics at Homerton College, Cambridge.

Frederica will study medicine at Magdalene College, Cambridge.


13.58:At Orpington College, 94 per cent passed their exams, with 58 per cent getting an A to C grade.

Twins Slaveya and Vladimira Stoencheva, aged 18, were celebrating getting the marks they need to get into their universities of choice.

Slaveya got two Bs and a D, and will study history at Brunel University, while Vladimira achieved a B and two Cs and will read psychology at Kingston University.

Slaveya said: “We’re very happy with our results and really excited about going to university.”

12.49: Bullers Wood School is celebrating its best ever results, with 66.52 per cent of students getting A* to B grades, and seven students achieving all A* grades.

12.34: At Bromley High School, an A* star was achieved in 15 per cent of all exams taken, while 46 per cent got an A* or A, and 77 per cent of all grades were A*, A or B.

And every single student got an A* or A in their exams in economics, German, textiles, history, further mathematics, photography and religious studies.

Headteacher Louise Simpson said: "I am delighted with these results for this year’s upper sixth form.

“With so much criticism of the exam system and the unfortunate mistakes in the papers this year, we were concerned that the girls might be adversely affected.

“Luckily this has not been the case. Every single girl has worked incredibly hard to achieve her own personal success and we are delighted that they have been so ambitious in their university choices.”

11.15: The headteacher of Newstead Wood School has described this year’s A Level results as ‘outstanding’.

Of the 152 students who sat the exams, 97% percent achieved A* to C grades.

One third of students gained A*/A in all of their subjects with 19 students earned an A*/A grade in 4 subjects and 11 pupils will be heading to either Oxford or Cambridge to continue their education.

Headteacher, Liz Allen, said: “Advanced Level achievement is a challenge and demands ability and constant hard work from students over two years. I am delighted with our students’ outstanding results that prove their skills and commitment.

“These are outstanding results for students who deserve their success. They have had the benefit of expert guidance from their dedicated teachers and the valued support of their parents. All of them can celebrate.”


10.55: The headmaster of St Olave’s Grammar School, Aydin Onac, has congratulated his students after receiving this year’s A level results.

He said: “2011 has been another year for outstanding A level results at St Olave’s, with 93.4% of results at A*/B grades. 24 students gained three, four or five A*grades, and in Mathematics, almost 50% of results were at A* grade.

“Of the 33 students who had offers for Oxbridge places, 32 have achieved the required grades and will be taking up places this autumn.

“Top performer was Samsuddin Jaker with five A* grades in Biology, Chemistry, Mathematics, Further Mathematics and Physics; he will be reading Medicine at Sidney Sussex College, Cambridge.

“The results are well-deserved and reflect the hard work put in by students and the dedication of the staff. Parents can be justly proud of their sons’ and daughters’ achievements which continue the reputation of academic excellence at St Olave’s Grammar School.”

9.27: At Langley Park School for Boys 85.9 per cent of 291 students who sat exams received grades A* to C.

Two students are going to Oxford and Cambridge.

Headteacher Rob Northcott said: "We are very proud of the achievements of all of our young people and passionately hope for the best for them as they take their next steps beyond school in these difficult economic times.

"It has been a great privilege to work with them all and we will miss them."
