A FATHER-of-three has been made to pay the price for a drink of water.

Adrian Hutton, aged 39, appeared at Dartford Magistrates' Court for sentencing after pleading guilty to burglary.

The offence occurred at Bilco Soft Drinks, Canal Road, Higham, between November 15 and November 16 last year.

Prosecutor Nicholas Markendale said: "Staff at Bilco closed up the unit but the following day on November 16 they found it had been burgled.

"They found some stock had been removed and keys to vehicles had been taken.

"They noticed a bottle of water which was empty and left on the floor.

"DNA was taken from the bottle of water and it was found to match Mr Hutton's."

Anna Farley, mitigating, said Hutton insisted he had nothing to do with the missing stock and keys.

She said: "He was walking past the building where this happened.

"He saw the door was open so he went in and saw some bottles of water and drank one.

"He effectively just walked into an open door because he was being nosey."

Hutton, of Carnation Road, Strood, was given a six-month conditional discharge and ordered to pay £43 costs on September 5.
