AN EXHIBITION of art exploring motherhood is coming soon at a mental health hospital.

Bethlem Royal Hospital in Monks Orchard Road, Beckenham, is hosting the Eternal Maternal exhibition from August 31 to September 23.

Some of the art was created by mothers who were treated at the hospital’s Perinatal Unit for women who develop mental illnesses during pregnancy or after childbirth.

Work by past and present patients of the South London and Maudsley NHS Foundation Trust, which runs the hospital, is also included in the exhibition.

The hospital’s gallery co-ordinator Beth Elliott said: “The exhibition celebrates the remarkable achievements of the people involved and shows a wide variety of mediums, styles and perspectives.”
