RIOT police were out on the streets of Eltham last night to contain a crowd of around 200 people.
News Shopper arrived on the scene at 11pm outside McDonalds at the junction of Well Hall Road and Eltham High Street.
Traffic and buses had been diverted.

The crowds in Eltham
00.25: Eltham MP Clive Efford, who returned home early from his holiday, has been speaking about the efforts of his constituents to 'reclaim the streets' from the rioters.
He spoke of his pride for the public spirited nature of the people of Eltham but was scathing in his comments regarding the groups of people he claims were not from the area.
He spoke of a group of people, who he said had been 'drinking all day', who were determined to march to Lewisham, for reasons he could not understand.

White people and the police can't lift their little finger to defend their communities without being called racist. And whole communities get labelled racist because of a few thugs, most of them not local anyway. It's such a shame that an exceptionally strong community (by London's standards) is portrayed in the wrong light while it should be held as an example for the rest of the country.
...when asian groups defended southall froom looters - it's classed as 'spirited community' when turkish men defended parts of north london two nights ago, it's classed as, 'spirited community'...when groups of white spirited men and women defend their area from looters - it's called, 'b.n.p. or e.d.l.' rofl!!

That's right .... because they weren't sitting in a pub all day organising like minded morons to join them in drinking until they could be bothered to go looking for a fight.

I'm a Millwall fan but never attended a EDL or BNP rally but went because I think people should fight back when the police do nothing (I saw the looting in Charlton and watched the police drive past in numbers and do nothing)
Looters did not turn up, Eltham was safe - job done.
