A GROUP of golfers have teed off to raise money for cancer charities in memory of Seve Ballesteros.

Members of Pedham Place Golf Club managed to raise £3,350 for Cancer Research UK and the Seve Ballesteros Foundation, after the professional golfer died from brain cancer in May.

David Seal, a member of Pedham Place Golf Club, in London Road, Swanley, said: “We wanted to do our bit for Seve and for cancer Research UK.”

As part of their fundraising events, a group of golfers paid £5 each to enter a round where they recreated some of Seve’s infamous golfing techniques.

Mr Seal said: “Seve was very known for doing outrageous shots, so on one occasion we played our course with only three clubs, which is very hard to do.

“It was great fun, I didn’t think we could do it.”

The group also organised a raffle and charity auction which included donations from golfers Lee Westwood and Darren Clarke.

And on July 31 the Pedham Place golfers were joined by Katie Gales from Cancer Research UK, who collected a cheque from the fundraisers.

Mr Seal added: “It’s amazing what we can do if we just put a bit of time in.”

Seve Ballesteros was just 54 when he died this year. His professional golfing career began in 1976, when aged just 19, he finished second at the British Open.
