BROMLEY Council leader Councillor Stephen Carr refused to wear a hardhat when touring a construction site, declaring “I don’t do hats”.
Cllr Carr refused to abide by health and safety rules when being shown the progress of building work at The Pavilion leisure centre in Bromley alongside fellow councillors, press, and centre management.
Before entering the centre, the construction firm’s site manager handed out high-visibility jackets and hardhats, and everyone put on the protective gear except for Cllr Carr, who avoided taking a hat.
Once inside the site – where all workers have to wear a hardhat – the manager asked Cllr Carr why he was not wearing one, to which he replied: “I don’t do hats,” leaving his fellow visitors stunned.
Fortunately nothing fell on Cllr Carr’s head during the visit.
