A GROUP representing the Belvedere Community Forum has expressed an interest in taking over the management of Belvedere library from Bexley Council.
The library, in Woolwich Road, Belvedere, is one of five which Bexley Council has suggested could be suitable for community management.
It wants community groups to take over three of the five on the council list, to help Bexley cut its costs.
The forum has already said it would prefer the council to continue to run the library, but is concerned about what kind of library could be left in Belvedere if the service is cut back.
it has expressed its concerns about the potential future management arrangements of the library and whether it would be financially viable.
And it has warned if it does take on the task: “We need the support of every member of the community, not just vocal support, but active support in terms of time and expertise.”
There will be a presentation by the council on the issue at the forum’s public meeting in St Augustine’s Church hall, St Augustine’s Road, Belvedere at 7.30pm on June 7.
