YOUNG people can get free contraception in a bid to cut teenage pregnancies and sexually transmitted diseases.

Under the Condom Card scheme in Lewisham, under 25s will be able to pick up condoms from youth clubs, libraries, schools, colleges and community health clinics, in the battle against the high rates of infections.

The scheme is being launched this Saturday at People’s Day in Catford where a team will hand out out free condoms.

Consultant in public health for NHS South East London Ruth Hutt said: “It’s a very effective way of giving young people the freedom to pick up condoms at a wide range of locations they’ll pass through day-to-day.

To register for the scheme go to kisp.org.uk or visit any of the sexual health clinics in the borough.
