A COMMENT on the News Shopper website led trading standards officers to a market stall selling fake designer clothing.

Officers visited the market near The Walnuts shopping centre in Orpington after reading the comment posted on a story about a seizure of counterfeit goods at a car boot sale.

The commenter said whenever they were in Orpington on Saturday they noticed market stalls selling fake clothing.

Unless, the person mused, Ralph Lauren now has an outlet in The Walnuts.

Trading standards confiscated the fake gear and spoke to the stallholder about selling counterfeit items.

Portfolio holder for public protection and safety Councillor Tim Stevens said: “Officers from trading standards will read these comments and treat them as intelligence which is then used to plan their activities.”
