A CANNABIS grower who tried to escape by climbing onto the roof when one of his factories was raided has been jailed for 20 months.

Robert Cox pleaded guilty at Croydon Crown Court to producing cannabis at a flat in Croydon Road, West Wickham, and at an address in Milner Road, Caterham.

The 51-year-old man, of Harrington Road, South Norwood, was arrested at the West Wickham address after police raided it on March 1.

He had attempted to flee the scene by climbing through the skylight and onto the roof of the property.

But after a 30 minute standoff he surrendered and was arrested on suspicion of production of cannabis.

Police found around 100 cannabis plants at the Croydon Road flat and a similar number of plants at the Milner Road address.
