GREENWICH’S rowers did the borough proud at the at the London Youth Games regatta on Saturday.

Five medals in individual events meant the borough placed second overall in the team competition.

Crown Woods School student Jack Davidson, 15, was an impressive winner of the male single sculls gold.

He was joined on the top of the podium by the Greenwich female quads combination of Blackheath High School students Sorcha Liston-Smith, 15, Alice Dwyer, 15, Alicia Buckley, 14, and 15-year-old Molly Atkinson.

Liston-Smith and Dwyer teamed up again to win silver in the female doubles, while Crown Woods pupil Isobel Turner, 17, took silver in the female single sculls.

There was also another medal for Molly Atkinson as she combined with 14-year-old Dominic Smith to take bronze in the mixed doubles.

In the kayaking, there was double medal success for 14-year-old Jamie Grover, who won silver in the senior female kayak slalom and then demonstrated her versatility by taking another silver medal in the kayak sprint senior female cirrus event.

The St Paul’s Academy student said: “I feel fantastic, that’s two medals I have won. I found my experience at the London Youth Games wicked, I really enjoyed it.

“I’ve trained six days a week for the past four years, so all the hard work has paid off and hopefully I will have a good chance again at next year’s regatta.”

Fellow St Paul’s Academy pupil Bronte Humphreys, 12, was another Greenwich team member to enjoy a visit to the podium after finishing second in the optimist female class in the sailing.
