Greenwich & Bexley Community Hospice is supporting this year’s Carers Week (13-19 June) by organising a carers information bus to call on Bexleyheath town centre (by the Clock Tower) bringing useful advice and information to shoppers.

The bus will be at Broadway, Bexleyheath on Thursday 16 June between 9 am and 5 pm.

The information bus at Broadway will be manned by Greenwich & Bexley Community Hospice staff and volunteers who will give out information and advice to anyone who wants to know more about the needs of carers. A volunteer with knowledge of welfare rights and benefits will be available between 12 pm and 4 pm to provide advice and assistance and there will be more information about the hospice’s carer support services.

Anthony Boland from Greenwich & Bexley Community Hospice said: “It can be quite a challenge for people who care for someone to recognise and acknowledge that their role is often unrelenting and exhausting and that they have their own needs. If carers access support and advice, this can help them continue to care for their loved one and make life as manageable as possible for them.”

Carers Week is promoted by Carers UK and runs from 13 to 19 June. It recognises and celebrates the contribution the UK’s six million carers make for those they care for and to their communities.

This year, the theme for the week is ‘The True Face of Carers’. It calls for greater recognition for the diverse range of people who give up their time, money and health to look after somebody else and is supported by many famous celebrities with caring experience, including British actor, Sir David Jason.

Greenwich & Bexley Community Hospice provides free specialist palliative care and support services for people with life-limiting illnesses, as well as providing support for their families and carers.
