CHILDREN and parents have celebrated the opening of a new children’s centre building in Deptford.

Greenwich’s new mayor, Councillor Jim Gillman cut the ribbon for the official opening of the Margaret McMillan building at Rachel McMillan Nursery School and Children’s Centre.

The new building in McMillan Street has been built to provide additional space for services and children and already hosts playgroups, parenting courses and a weekly baby club.

There is also a separate new outdoor play area especially for groups using the building.

Greenwich Council’s cabinet member for children and young people, Councillor Jackie Smith was also present at the opening on May 27.

She said: “The council remains committed to ensuring that there is a future for our children’s centres, and this one is certainly flourishing.

“Staff, parents and the local community are quite clearly delighted with the new shelter, which is a wonderful, high quality building.”
