PEOPLE from refugee communities across Lewisham borough are coming together for a celebration.
The Lewisham Town Hall event in Catford from 10am to 3pm on June 21 will kick off national Refugee Week.
Started in 1998, the week is a response to the negative image of refugees and asylum seekers held by some people.
Director of Lewisham Refugee Network Rosario Mincher said: “Refugee Week is an opportunity to talk about the facts, instead of the myths, about refugees and asylum seekers, and to celebrate the huge cultural and economic contribution they make to our country.”
The event, to be opened by Lewisham Deptford MP Joan Ruddock, will include African drumming, as well as a singing workshop, photographic and textile exhibitions, craft stalls, a fashion show, massage and face painting.
