A FORMER Brownies treasurer has been spared jail after she was found guilty of fraud relating to almost £5,000 of the group’s funds.
Kate Homewood, of Chatham Avenue, Hayes, failed to pay in the cash from subscriptions and donations to the 2nd West Wickham Brownies account between July 2008 and February last year.
The 36-year-old was today given a nine month prison sentence suspended for 18 months and ordered to carry out 80 hours community service.
During a four day trial last month at Southwark Crown Court, a jury heard the mum-of-two used the money to pay off her “terrible” debts.
The cash had been raised by the Brownies for the Multiple Sclerosis Society and the Cystic Fibrosis Trust.
Homewood was convicted of two counts of fraud relating to the Brownies funds and also declaring incorrect information when applying online for a £240 loan.
