BEXLEY is to received £50,000 from London Mayor Boris Johnson to dress up the borough for next year’s Olympic Games.

Every London borough will get a similar sum to decorate key areas with flags, bunting and banners to “spread the look and feel of London 2012 across the capital”.

Councils will be able to buy from a catalogue of official Olympic organising committee (LOCOG) items, which will be finalised in the summer.

Boroughs will be able to submit their own ideas for how local areas might look, highlighting particular public spaces or displaying hidden attractions.

Plans must be approved by the Greater London Authority and LOCOG by the end of November this year.

Mr Johnson said: “We have a duty to make the most of this opportunity and I’m determined to ensure every part of the capital gets to benefit and enjoy the Games.”

He added: “The fun will help us put on the best show and showcase ourselves to the world, wherever we are.”
