COMMUTERS are being warned of delays following an accident on the M2 this morning.

A van driver is in a serious condition in hospital after crashing into the central reservation.

Kent Police officers closed both sides of the motorway between J5 for Sittingbourne J6 for Faversham whilst firefighters freed the driver.

He has been taken to Medway Maritime Hospital in Gillingham.

The accident happened at 8.25am and the motorway re-opened at 11.15am but there are now long hold-ups.

The Highways Agency says there are currently delays of up to 30 minutes which it hopes will ease in the next hour.
