TWO schools have been judged outstanding for their English teaching.

School watchdog Ofsted named St Paul’s Academy, Abbey Wood, and Crown Woods College, Eltham, in a report called Excellence in English.

St Paul’s was singled out for its innovative teaching while Crown Woods was praised for tackling issues like refugees, racism and street culture.

Crown Woods principal Michael Murphy said: “It’s the result of a good number of years of hard work, pulling together an increasingly efficient English team that has a total and absolute commitment to pupils and students.”

Principal at St Paul’s Pat Winston said: “The big secret of our success is the quality of teaching from the English team. We have a young English team, and a lot of the staff trained with us after coming here as graduates. They are enormously talented.”
