FROM parks to palaces and museums to street corners, Greenwich Dance will be taking dance outdoors for a 10-day festival this summer.

Running from June 24 to July 3, Greenwich Dances will feature 24 performances and 11 workshops in unusual locations across the borough.

Highlights include Crossroads, performed at the Old Royal Naval College and influenced by ideas and experiences of travelling, migration and cultural identity, as well as urban dance spectacular Dancing Streets in Woolwich town centre on June 30.

Film fans are also in for a treat as the big screen in General Gordon Square will be screening movies including Dance at Dusk on July 1 and Baz Luhrmann’s romantic comedy Strictly Ballroom will be shown in the gardens at Well Hall Pleasaunce.

The celebrations will come to a close with the Greenwich World Cultural Festival on July 3, when Greenwich Dance and Greenwich Theatre will stage an afternoon of circus, dance and music from around the world in the historic grounds of Eltham Palace.

Greenwich residents and visitors will also be able to learn some new steps in the workshop series On the Move, which includes street dance at Twinkle Park in Deptford, ballroom dancing at the National Maritime Museum and tango for the over-50s at the Trinity Centre.

Brendan Keaney, director of Greenwich Dance, said: “Greenwich Dances gives everyone in the borough a chance to be inspired by dance, whether they are participating, watching or discovering something new.

"Greenwich Dances takes dance out of the studio and into public spaces around Greenwich. Let’s just hope the sun is shining.”
