A CHARITY is recruiting crisis workers to support rape victims undergoing physical examinations.
Gravesend-based Family Matters has received money from the Home Office to provide independent support at the sexual examination suite in Darent Valley Hospital.
Crisis workers will be on call on Thursday and Friday nights and throughout the weekend.
Operations director at Family Matters, Malcolm Gilbert said: “Kent is the only county in the south east without a dedicated fully functioning 24/7 sexual assault referral centre or SARC which has crisis workers on site.
“This call out system, whilst not perfect, will go a long way to meeting the needs of victims at a difficult and traumatic time.”
