A 27-YEAR-OLD man has appeared in court charged with the murder of a pensioner in his home in Downham.

Andrew Monk, of Abergeldie Road, Eltham, was arrested in connection with the enquiry yesterday.

He appeared at Greenwich Magistrates’ Court today (May 12) charged with the murder of James Land.

The pensioner was found by police in his home in Whitefoot Terrace at around 10pm on Tuesday.

London Ambulance Service was also called but the 79-year-old man was pronounced dead at the scene.

A post-mortem examination is due to take place at Greenwich Mortuary this afternoon to try to establish how Mr Land died.

Monk will next appear at the Old Bailey on Monday (May 16).
