A 27-YEAR-OLD man is due in court this morning (May 12) accused of murdering a pensioner in his home in Downham.
The pensioner, who has been named locally as Jim, was found by police in his home in Whitefoot Terrace at around 10pm on Tuesday.
London Ambulance Service was also called but the 79-year-old man was pronounced dead at the scene.
Andrew Monk, of Abergeldie Road, Eltham, was arrested in connection with the enquiry.
Police charged him with murder last night and he is due to appear at Greenwich Magistrates’ Court today.
A post-mortem examination is due to take place at Greenwich Mortuary this afternoon to try to establish how the pensioner died.
