A LITTLE more than a third of Bexley’s voters registered an opinion on the way future elections to the Westminster parliament should take place.
Voter turnout in the borough on the Alternative Vote system across the borough last week was just 37.5 per cent.
This compares badly with even the lowest turnout for last year’s council elections of 53.4 per cent.
Unlike in other places across the country, Bexley in common with all the London boroughs, had no other elections taking place on polling day last Thursday.
Altogether, 63,599 people votes.
Of those, 48,630 people cast their vote in favour of keeping the current first-past-the-post system while just 14, 929 voted to change the system.
There were 94 spoilt papers, including 19 people who voted for both options.
