A 35-YEAR-OLD woman has quit her job to follow her dream of volunteering in Uganda.

Elizabeth Bagger, of Horn Park Lane, Lee, will be jetting off to the African country on June 20 leaving behind her nine to five role as a programme manager at a not for profit organisation.

She will be volunteering for three months with charity Soft Power Education, which helps refurbish schools and teach English in Uganda.

Miss Bagger, who admits she has no DIY skills, said: “It’s something I have always wanted to do and if I don’t do it now I probably never will.”

She added: “In the current economic climate it’s a risky thing to do but sometimes you have to trust you are doing the right thing.”

Miss Bagger is appealing for sponsorship as she needs to raise £1,500 before the trip but has just £200 so far.

The Denmark national, who moved to the UK eight years ago, will live with a Ugandan family during her stay and hopes to learn how to cook a traditional meal and learn the Lusoga language.

She said: “I’m a little bit nervous about what’s going on in Uganda with demonstrations and violence.

“But I have a lot to do before I go which stops me worrying about it.”

Miss Bagger will leave behind her boyfriend of 13 years, Andy Pitoif, who hopes to visit her during the last few weeks of the trip.
