PLANNING bosses will decide tonight whether or not to allow the demolition of a derelict pub.

Campaigner Minty Challis has been staying inside the Green Man Pub, Bromley Road, Catford, in protest over its planned demolition.

Miss Challis and a group of residents will be attending the Lewisham Council planning committee meeting at the Civic Suite, Catford.

Lewisham Council previously confirmed 255 letters were sent to residents from May 9 to the beginning of June, of which 51 people objected to the proposals.

But a group of residents have been leafleting 500 homes around the area to drum up more support to stop the pub's demolition.

Bob Chambers, 59, of Oakridge Road, Downham, said: "We want to preserve something of the original feel of Southend Village and this building is the last building which has anything to do with it.

"We hope the council will not grant permission tonight to demolish the pub."

Developer Renewal Beckenham Limited has applied for planning permission to knock down the pub to make way for four and five-storey flats with 45 parking spaces.
