Sencio Community Leisure has teamed up with Age Concern to stage a charity day at the award-winning Lullingstone Park Golf Course in Chelsfield.

The event is part of an on-going fundraising campaign by the charity to enable it to continue to offer a programme of assistance and events to older people in communities across the Sevenoaks district.

Age Concern Sevenoaks - which next year celebrates its diamond anniversary - provides important daycare facilities at Hollybush Close in Sevenoaks and at Edenbridge Leisure Centre.

Part of a national network, it is supported by a fleet of four ambulances that ferries people to and from centres that play host to around 1,000 visitors every month.

As well as providing a nucleus for social interaction, Age Concern Sevenoaks runs a full programme of activities that includes chiropody, aromatherapy and reflexology.

There are also various support and advisory services, while the Sevenoaks centre has an assisted-bathing facility and on-site shop in which people can stock up on household essentials.

Gillian Shepherd-Coates, of Age Concern Sevenoaks, said: "Isolation, loss of contact, and concerns about managing day-to-day can all combine to create anxiety and worry in later life.

"Age Concern local groups are part of a federation, they operate autonomously and are responsible for raising their own funds.

"In the Sevenoaks district, we welcome up to 100 visitors every weekday and operate a thriving programme. However, fundraising is a constant concern and we are delighted to have been selected as the beneficiary of this year's charity day at Lullingstone Park Golf Course."

The event - on Thursday, September 14 - is a Stableford competition open to all players with a handicap and aims to attract around 120 participants.

Prizes will be offered for first, second and third place, for nearest the pin and longest drive, and it is hoped to encourage the participation of both individual players and those representing golf societies and local businesses.

Mark Whyman, Sencio Community Leisure's managing director, said: "Since the success of our first charity golf day at Lullingstone Park Golf Course last year, we have been keen to stage a second and to identify another important local cause.

"As a business that promotes the benefits of physical activity among all ages, this event builds on our existing relationship with Age Concern and will, we hope, attract many participants."

The entry fee of £37.50 per player includes refreshments and a bacon sandwich at the start of the day and a buffet lunch.
