MORE than a thousand people gathered in Gravesend town centre to watch a Good Friday pageant.

Gravesend Churches Together, which has organised the event every year since 2003 started the show at 11am in Windmill Street.

The event, which saw actors re-enact the biblical story of Easter, then morphed into a street party involving music and dancing.

Martin Harris, who wrote and directed the pageant, said: "It was truly incredible to see so many turn out for the pageant and to feel the joy as older folks watched kids dancing and praising God for what he did on the cross.”

The group also held a sunrise service on Easter Sunday on Windmill Hill, where more than 30 people congregated around a wooden cross.
