East Wickham Conservation Volunteers were set up to look after East Wickham Open Space off Wickham Street in Welling. The group undertakes a variety of tasks, from planting spring bulbs and creating roosting areas for bats, to creating new pathways and encouragement for children to become involved. Animal charity the RSPB has joined forces with the Crop Protection Association to produce guidance leaflets for gardeners on the safe use and disposal of garden chemicals. The leaflets are available at garden centres and other outlets or can be downloaded from cropprotection.org.uk

Another 90 new hybrid buses will hit London’s streets this year, bring the number in the Transport for London fleet to more than 220. The buses, which pump out less particulate matter and nitrogen pollution than traditional diesel double deckers are being deployed in some of central London's air quality hotspots
