THE ex-wife of the Night Stalker rapist has branded him “evil” and says he should never be freed from prison.

Delroy Grant was last month jailed for a minimum of 27 years after being finally brought to justice for preying on elderly men and women over almost two decades.

The 53-year-old, of Brockley Mews, Brockley, was convicted of 29 offences between 1992 and 2009 including 16 burglaries, two attempted burglaries, three rapes, one attempted rape, six indecent assaults and one sexual assault.

Grant denied the charges claiming his ex-wife Janet Watson had framed him for the attacks by using a male associate to plant his DNA at the 18 victims’ homes in Bromley, Beckenham, Orpington, Forest Hill and Croydon.

Ms Watson, 52, who divorced Grant in 1979, said: "I don't feel anything for that man, he's evil.

"He's bad, he's not mad. I know some people have said he must be mad to have done all those terrible things to those elderly people, but he's not mad, he knew what he was doing.

"When he was arrested I was totally shocked. I hadn't heard from him or had anything to do with him for years. Then suddenly he was back in my life because everyone wanted me to tell them about him.”

The couple, who married at St Lawrence Church in Bromley Road, Catford, in 1975, had two sons, Delroy Junior, now 35, and Michael, now 32.

Nightmare

Ms Watson, who lives in Mottingham, said: "It was a nightmare for me and my family. My sons had been seeing him on and off for a few years but they were shocked too.

"I was disgusted when I heard what he had done. It sickened me to think I'd ever had anything to do with him - that I had children with him.

"But he was violent to me when we were married so I knew he was capable of violence.”

During the trial at Woolwich Crown Court, Grant admitted he was “serially unfaithful” to his ex-wife and had a string of relationships with other women.

In total Grant, who became a Jehovah’s Witness, had 10 children with four women, including his current wheelchair-bound wife Jennifer Grant, who suffers from multiple sclerosis.

After his arrest in November 2009, Grant even tried to pin the blame on Delroy Junior, telling police he was the same height and lived in the same area.

Violent

Ms Watson, a part-time carer, said: "I left him because he was very violent to me and he kept playing around with other women. He always had other women and was always cheating on me with other women.

"I couldn't believe it when the police told me he was blaming me and Delroy Junior, saying we had planted his DNA at the scenes of his crimes.

"It was terrible that he said those things about me but even worse that he put his own son through that ordeal. That really hurt me.”

While Ms Watson gave evidence in court to deny Grant’s claims, he even called her a “liar” from the dock.

She said: “Everyone could tell that his story was ridiculous. I stared at him when I told the court what he was like.

"I'm so happy and relieved that he was found guilty and has been sent to prison for a very, very long time.

"He should never be let out of jail. I know my sons don't want anything to do with him again."
