PEOPLE interested in becoming the “voice of equality” in Bexley are being asked to volunteer for the borough’s new Single Equality Group.

The new group will replace Bexley Council for Equality and Diversity which loses its funding at the end of March.

It will also work with the council on developing equality plans and strategies.

Councillor Katie Perrior, cabinet member for community services said: “"This group will help us ensure that our future planning continues to be based on a good knowledge of the needs of residents, from ensuring we are offering excellent life chances for our young people, to understanding how to ensure disabled and older people have equality of access."

The role will take a couple of hours a month and the council is hoping people linked to existing groups who know about the needs of people from the various equality priorities, will be interested in volunteering.
