A LAW centre in Erith is one of a number of law firms supporting the It’s Not Just Peanuts campaign.
The campaign involves solicitors donating amounts of money less than £50, they have sitting in client accounts where they cannot now trace the owners.
These sums of money can be left in an account through a number of situations such as a client not cashing a returned cheque, despite reminders.
Through a simple process, the money can be donated to the Access to Justice Foundation, chaired by former attorney general Lord Goldsmith QC.
It then distributes the money to help pay for free legal advice to people across all the London boroughs.
If the original owner turns up at any point to claim their money, it is returned to them.
Cross Street Law Centre in Erith is one of the Bexley firms taking part in the scheme and says cuts in local government funding and legal aid are making the funding of free legal advice increasingly difficult.
