A GROUP of Commonwealth MPs and officials have been given a tour of Bexleyheath by the local MP.

David Evennett, who represents Bexleyheath and Crayford, hosted the visit by eight delegates from the Commonwealth Parliamentary Association, comprising six MPs and two clerks from countries such as Canada, New Zealand, Bermuda and Malta.

Mr Evennett took the group on a walk around Bexleyheath town centre, where they had the opportunity to chat to shopkeepers, residents and PCSOs.

They then had a break for coffee at Mr Evennett’s constituency office where he told them about the role of a British MP, the voting system in the UK, making representations to ministers and his own political background.

Next on the tour was a visit to Bexley Mencap’s office where they spoke with the manager Steve Davies about the charity’s work supporting adults with learning disabilities, before dropping in on Bexley civic offices to meet Bexley Council leader Councillor Teresa O’Neill.
