BEXLEY Care Trust is the best performing trust in London and the second best in England for uploading patient record summaries.

A summary care record gives important basic medical information such as medication, allergies, adverse reactions and other vital information from GP records.

Care trusts nationally are uploading the information to create a secure electronic record, so clinicians can easily find out medical information about their patients who may not be able to provide it themselves.

Bexley has so far uploaded 82 per cent of patients’ summary care records in just four months.

To date 25 of Bexley’s GP practices have uploaded the information, with the last surgery due to complete the job next month.

People have to give their permission for a summary care record to be created and can have it withdrawn at any time by contacting their GP.

They can also look at their record using a secure website called HealthSpace.

Patients who want to know more about summary care records can call the Patient Advice and Liaison Service on 0800 328 9712.
