NAKED penalties and bathing in jelly on Blackheath were just some of the ways people helped Comic Relief hit a whopping total this year. News Shopper: Ben Morris and friends

Eleven-year-old St Dunstan’s College pupil Ben Morris braved the elements on Saturday, sitting in a bath of 29 gallons of jelly on the heath.

He has raised £248 for his efforts so far and has also turned the feat into a film.

The jelly had been donated by Tesco and Sainsbury’s, while the bath was provided by Wickes.

Mum Tee said: “It took nine hours to make all the jelly and we had to try and get the bath in the back of the car.

“The jelly was also very cold. But I think the whole thing was a great experience for him.”

News Shopper: Naked relief at Thamesmead At Thamesmead Football Club, players raised money with a naked penalty shootout.

Sporting nothing more than football boots and strategically placed red noses the first team and back room staff were game for a laugh and took to the pitch ahead of their Ryman League game against Potters Bar Town.

First team manger Keith McMahon said: “I don’t know who came up with this crazy idea but fair play to the boys. It was a chilly old day but they didn’t back out.

“Thanks to everyone who sponsored us because we raised a fantastic £600 for Comic Relief.

“On the down side the effort must have taken a bit out of us because we went on to lose three-nil”

News Shopper: Blackheath High School Pupils at Blackheath High School collected more than £2,000 with a day of fundraising.

Activities included a red nose biscuit and cake sale.

Junior pupils came to school dressed in red, while raffles were held.

Staff at the school also joined in the fun with a karaoke session.

News Shopper: The Copperfield Pub And the Copperfield Pub, in Station Approach, Catford, raised £500 after holding a 24 hour pool marathon.

Around 12 people, aged 18 to 50, took part in the competition as well as customers who visited the pub.

Barmaid Tasha Wosik, who organised the event, said: “Everyone was quite excited at the end and said they want to do it again.”

The 32-year-old added: “It was a success and everybody enjoyed it. The only mistake I made was not getting enough sleep the night before.”
