URGENT talks are underway over an on-line company selling up-market baby equipment.

The company, Baby Time which also sells from its shop in Bellegrove Road, Welling, has been the subject of a growing number of complaints from customers who claim they have not received the goods they ordered and have been unable to get their money back.

Currently, the company has an apology on its website blaming the lack of deliveries on a flooded warehouse.

The notice reads: “We are experiencing severe delays due to an earlier ware house leak.

“We are trying very hard to clear the backlog of all the orders and hope to fulfill all the orders by end of this month.

"We are extremely sorry for the inconvenience caused.”

But one unhappy customer, Lisa Burrows, claims the excuse is just a ruse and alleges the company does not even have a warehouse.

Mrs Burrows from Sidcup ordered and paid for a pram in time for the birth of her granddaughter in April.

She says she was due to collect the pram from Baby Time’s shop this month.

Mrs Burrows said: “I have tried to contact them several times by phone and have called by the shop only to find the shutters down and the shop closed."

She added: “I went on the Baby Time website to see what was going on and it has a notice on there saying it has had a leak in its warehouse, which is untrue as it does not have a warehouse at all.

“It stores all its stock upstairs or in a locked metal crate at the back of the shop.

Mrs Burrows says when she tried to leave an email on the company’s website, the mailbox was full.

She added: “I asked around at surrounding shops to see if they knew what was happening only to be told the occupants had gone.”

Online forums also chart the unhappy experiences of other Baby Time customers.

News Shopper was unable to contact the company by phone or email and a Companies House search showed the company was dissolved in 1998.

Bexley's Trading Standards department says it has received a significant number of enquiries about Baby Time and is aware the company's website is currently unavailable.

It said its officers were trying to arrange an urgent meeting with the owner to find a solution to the problems.

A spokesman said: "He has told us that he is doing his best to resolve matters."

The company website went down temporarily and there were concerns at neighbouring shops who have fielded dozens of complaints about Baby Time, it was taking more internet orders when it reappeared.

But trading standards said it had been blocked from doing any additional online business.
