THERE were hundreds of busy fingers at work at one Bexley primary school as they set out to help break a world record.

But the children at Pelham Primary school in Pelham Road, Bexleyheath, were not finger painting or playing an instrument, they were singing a song with their hands.

The school houses special provision for 18 deaf children and all the school enjoys learning how to use sign language to sing songs as part of ordinary school life.

So they jumped at the chance to take part in a world record attempt to sign the song I’d Like to Teach the World to Sing when invited by Sign2Sing.

The school hall was filled with a sea of hands and voices as the children joined others across the country to sign to sing simultaneously.

details of all those taking part have gone to the Guinness book of record for verification.

Money raised by the attempt will go to SignHealth which provides mental health services for deaf people.
