KENT Police have appointed a new area commander for north Kent.

Chief Superintendent Mark Powell will replace Chief Superintendent Ali Roden in the position, to oversee all policing matters in the area.

Chief Supt Powell has been a police officer since 1987 and joined Kent police in 2009 as head of crime.

He said: “I want to maintain high quality policing in North Kent, be there when people need us and keep Gravesham and Dartford safe, working with our communities to keep it that way.

“We face some major challenges in the coming year and will be taking north Kent through a significant change while maintaining our high standard of service with fewer resources.”
