COUNCIL houses are being built for the first time in 17 years in Gravesham.
The five properties in Harden Road, Northfleet, will be completed by the autumn, and one of them will be purposely built with disabled access.
There are currently 6,000 occupied council houses in Gravesham, with 3,000 people on the waiting list for a property.
Lead member for housing at Gravesham Council, Councillor Anthony Pritchard, said: “It’s a real privilege to be delivering these long awaited properties.
“Times are hard but we’re doing absolutely all we can to protect the tenants of Gravesham.”
