Greenwich Council is offering advice to its residents who are organising celebratory events for the Royal wedding.

Residents who want to mark the Royal wedding with a street party can find out what procedures they need to follow on the council’s website.

The council has issued ‘Greenwich Guide to Street Parties’ which provides information on a range of issues including street closures and licences.

It is also writing to community groups and event organisers who contact them about street parties and other community events.

Greenwich Council leader Chris Roberts said: “All of us in Greenwich have a lot to celebrate - this year there is the Royal wedding and next year we’ll become a Royal Borough, it’s the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee and we hosting events for the Olympic and Paralympic Games.

“Traditionally we often celebrate with street parties or outdoor community events. It’s a great way to get to know our neighbours, build a strong sense of community and have fun together.”

He added: “Even though times are hard, I know Greenwich residents can pull together to make this a truly memorable time.”
