A 31-YEAR-OLD man has avoided prison after being caught carrying a knife and cannabis.

Simon Allen, of Harold Road, Upper Norwood, was sentenced to eight weeks in prison, suspended for 12 months, at Bromley Magistrates’ Court.

Allen had previously pleaded guilty to two counts of possessing a Class B drug and one count of possessing an offensive weapon.

The court heard that Bromley police officers stopped Allen when he got off a bus in Beckenham on October 22 last year because he smelled of cannabis.

He tried to run away but the officers caught him and found he was carrying a knife and cannabis, and then searched his home and found a small cannabis factory.

Magistrates also ordered Allen to do 120 hours community service during the sentencing on February 22.
